For most environments setting up the standalone version of Sanction to open/create cases on a network consists of two steps; Creating a network case location and changing the case location in Sanction.

  1. Create the network case location.
  2. The Sanction case location is simply a folder on your network that you designate as the folder where Sanction cases will be stored. To create a network case location you may need to have administrative access on your network as well as your computer, check with your Information Technology staff if you are not sure. Also, keep in mind the network access your Sanction users have when creating the case location. You must select a folder on your network that all Sanction users have access to in order for them to be able to open/create cases in that location.

The example below illustrates a typical business environment in which three users have Sanction setup in the default configuration. On each computer the Sanction case location is set to "C:\Program Files\SanctionII\Cases\."

Here is an example of a Typical Business Environment.

However, each user has access to a G:\ drive that is mapped to a "network share." It is important to note that the G:\ drive for each use points to the same network share. Since the G:\ drive fits the requirement for a network case location you decide to create a folder called "Sanction Cases" on the G:\ drive. Your network case location is now "G:\Sanction Cases\."

  3. Change the case location setting in Sanction.
  4. Next, on each client computer, change the case location setting to point to the folder on the network. To change the case location click on the Tools menu in Sanction and select Settings. On the settings window click the Misc. tab. When you click the Add button next to the Case File Location field a navigation window will appear. Navigate to the network location and select the folder you created (in this example G:\Sanction Cases\).

When you click the OK button at the bottom of the Settings window Sanction will prompt you if you are sure you want to change the settings. When you verify that you do Sanction will close any open cases and will wait for you to open/create a case. From this point on Sanction will open/create cases in the network case location that you created.
