The Find/Query feature allows the user to search categories for specific item information based on the individual case item fields. ID, Group, Descriptions or by using powerful SQL based searches. Found items can be added to the Temp, User or Presentation folders with a simple right-click.

 

To Search a Specific Category or Field using the Simple Search feature:

 

1.    Click on the Find/Query tab.

2.    Use the Search In combo box to choose which category in your case you'd like to search. Sanction II will search the entire case, however, as the size of your case increases you may speed search times by selecting the appropriate category (if you know the general location of your search items).

3.    Use the Search By options to choose the field to search through how to locate your items. You may search through any of the valid fields. The Date Added and User Name searches are useful when trying to locate an item you have forgotten the name of or possibly named incorrectly. Sanction II will check the database for items added on a specific date, or added by a specific user. (Note: the User Name is based on the current user name of the PC where the item was added from). Changing the Search By option has no relation to the Search By option used in Presentation Mode.

4.    Select the field to search through from the By Field drop down combo box. Click the Match Exact Text check box to match your exact text in the search. Click on Add to List to add found items to the existing list.

5.    Enter the search words in the Find Text box.

6.    Click on Find to begin the search.

 

If items are located, the will be added to the found items list.

 

To Use the SQL Builder:

 

1.    Select the category/table to Search from the Search Table drop down combo box.

2.    Select the field to search from the Where drop down combo box. The Where combo box contains the database fields for the selected Search Table.

3.    Select the search condition from the Condition drop down combo box. There a several possible conditions to choose from which will affect the out come of your search.

4.    Type the search criteria in the Criteria text box.

5.    Choose Run Query to search using the SQL builder statement.

 

Creating complex Queries (Boolean Searches)

 

You can also create a complex query consisting of more than one condition by using the Boolean drop down combo box. When you select a Boolean operator, the choices selected in each of the Where, Condition and Criteria choices are combined with the root criteria.

 

To create a Boolean search:

 

1.    Enter the root search information as documented above.

2.    Select a Boolean from the Boolean operator, AND or OR.

3.    Enter the Where, Condition and Criteria information as indicated above.

4.    Choose Run Query to search using the SQL builder statement.

 

To clear a Boolean Search, select the blank entry from the Boolean Drop Down combo box.

 

Notes/Summary window

 

You may display either the notes field or the summary field by double clicking directly on the Notes/Summary text window. This toggles between the two field display choices.
