Custom Import

There may be some instances where you wish to load an ASCII text delimited file which has fields that don't correspond with any of the default import choices. As long as the text file contains the Item path, group and unique ID, Sanction II's Custom Import feature can import the data. Used in conjunction with the Field Importer feature, practically any type of ASCII delimited information can be loaded into Sanction II.

In order for a Custom Import to be successful, there are three mandatory fields that must be present in the import text file and optional page and description fields.

The required fields are the document ID, the Group name and either the Full File Path to the image, or the individual elements of the path - the Filename, Path and optional Volume label.

The Custom Import, like the rest of Sanction II, utilizes the simplicity of drag and drop to create the import.

To match the import file text fields with their Sanction II equivalent, drag the required fields one at a time from the field list and drop them onto the correct information field.

Review the following example which uses a comma delimited ASCII text file with three fields, the ID, the Group and the Full file path.

BASS001,Bass,c:\image\001.tif

BASS002,Bass,c:\image\002.tif

BASS003,Bass,c:\image\003.tif

BASS004,Bass,c:\image\004.tif

....

BASS598,Bass,c:\image\598.tif

To import a custom ASCII text file:

Load the file from the Load File dialog

Select the Field delimiter in the text file (in this example, the delimiter is a ",") and the Category to Import.

The field list will display each field in the text file based on the selected delimiter character. Drag the fields one at a time from the field list to the correct info field. (To remove the entry, right click on it.)

After filling in the mandatory( and optional fields), click Import to begin importing.

Custom Import Limitations

Note the following import limitations:

1. You must indicate the correct field delimiter in order for the field list to include all fields. If the Field List does not display the fields correctly, either an incorrect delimiter has been selected, or the ASCII file is not in a format acceptable for importing with this feature.

2. You must indicate either the Full File Path or the components of the path. The import will not work without this information.

3. The ASCII file must have a Group and ID field. To use the ID as the Group, just drag and drop the ID field to both info fields.
