Windows Media Files and Other Streaming Media

Sanction II supports any media file type which can be played back in Microsoft’s Media PlayerÓ, however some media file types, such as .wmf and other streaming formats cannot be used for media clip creation.

This is because these file types "buffer" data when loading. Buffering interferes with the ability to accurately jump to a specified start and end point (as these points are actually "random" when buffered and do not correspond to a zero based reference point like other media files – mpg, wav, avi, etc.).

For this reason, streaming media files should only be played back in their entirety, and not used to create partial clips. If you must create clips from these files, they must be converted to the recommended file type (mpg, avi, etc) prior to clip creation.
